Waterproof wheelchairs in big demand at Morgan's Wonderland

Opening of fully-accessible water park creates demand

SAN ANTONIO – Ever since Morgan's Wonderland opened the gates two months ago to Inspiration Island, a fully-accessible water park, waterproof wheelchairs have been in big demand.

The park currently has only four of the wheelchairs, which take just minutes to recharge and have tanks underneath.

"These water chairs are amazing," said the mother of a 7-year-old girl with cerebral palsy. "People don't realize how much stuff they are not able to do."

While the special-needs park has many types of wheelchairs, it's the waterproof kind that's all the rage this summer.

"We do own the rights to this chair," said park General Manager Ron Morander. "The goal is to get this into mass production so that everyone around the state, in San Antonio, and around the globe can start using it in many different ways."
