Woman captures video of men stealing from Salvation Army donation site

Incident occurred at North Side location

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio says she saw people stealing from the Salvation Army so she captured it on camera.

Andrea Walker went to the Salvation Army off Highway 281 on Sunday to drop off some donations. She said she saw three guys loading up a truck and when they saw her, they took off.

"I circled around the building to call the police," Walker said. "And, while I was on the phone with the police, I saw them coming back. I parked over here at the Auto Zone and I was able to get a video of them, actually taking the items and placing them into the bed of their truck."

Walker got video of three men loading up a blue and white truck.

"It's a shame that someone would want to steal from the Salvation Army," said Major Tim Farrel, head of the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center. "After someone donated something that was probably important to them and they wanted it to make someone else's life better."

Farrel said that Salvation Army site is closed on Sundays, but that people still drop off donations and they've had some items stolen before.

The donations that are picked up from the drop-off sites are brought to Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Center they're then processed and go to stores all over the city.

"All that money that is raised from that goes to our program here because we have over 100 guys to feed three meals a day, get them programmed," Farrel said.

Walker said she hopes her video will help.

"Stealing is wrong in general, but you are stealing from a charity," Walker said. "The Salvation Army does so many good things for veterans and active duty, it's just wrong."

"I'm proud of San Antonio and the people of it and I love that woman who's looking out for us," said Farrel.

"Thank you. We'll do our best by you and thank you to the people of San Antonio for backing our program. It's really making a difference in a lot of people's lives."
