Woman fatally shot, man wounded in robbery attempt on NW Side

Pair shot while coming home from night out, police say

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are trying to find clues about a murderer who they say was wearing a mask when he committed the crime.

Police said the suspect shot and killed a 22-year-old woman and wounded a man who was with her early Thursday morning.

The pair was with a third person, another woman, returning home from a night out around 3 a.m. when they met up with the masked man at the Seven Oaks apartments in the 5900 block of Danny Kaye Drive.

Police said the group was walking on a path at the apartment complex just steps from the murder victim's home, when the masked man jumped out from behind a building and made demands.

Officials said the robber then shot the woman "multiple" times, while the male victim was hit once. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The other woman who was with them ran away when the shooting started and was not hurt, police said.

They were not sure right away why the robber shot the pair.

Early on, police had only a general description of him -- a man wearing dark clothing with his face covered.

Officers searched the area on foot and from a helicopter but could not find the killer.
