SCHERTZ, Texas - A community continues to grieve for a 6-year-old boy killed in a deputy-involved shooting this week.
Kameron Prescott was inside a trailer home in Schertz when Bexar County deputies opened fire on a 30-year-old woman on the trailer’s porch. Deputies believed the woman had a weapon.
The deputies didn’t find a gun, but they found the young boy shot inside the trailer.
A woman, who identified only as Beatrice, dropped off poinsettias and a stocking at a memorial site nearby Saturday. She said some of Kameron’s family members live at her apartment complex.
“We have a God up above, and this is very sad, especially at this time of year. I'm pretty sure their parents are so distraught, just like we all are. We all have to pray and be as generous as we can with our hearts,” Beatrice said.
During a news conference Friday, Sheriff Javier Salazar said his office had been getting requests from the public to help with funeral expenses. He said his office has been putting those people in contact with the person assisting the family with arrangements.
