Woman exchanges gunfire with intruders in NE Bexar County

Incident reported around 1:30 a.m. in 3500 block of Alonzo Fields

SAN ANTONIO – A woman opened fire on some intruders who broke into her home early Thursday in Northeast Bexar County.

The woman, who didn't want to be identified, told KSAT 12 News that she heard some knocking at the door of her home in the 3500 block of Alonzo Fields around 1:30 a.m. by people who claimed they were from the San Antonio Police Department.

She got suspicious when she looked out the window and saw no law enforcement vehicles. Knowing that the Bexar County Sheriff's Office is the law enforcement agency that handles calls in her neighborhood, she called 911.

Moments later, she heard some aggressive banging at the door, so she went to get her handgun.

After she heard the back door being kicked in, the woman opened fire twice. The intruders fired back, she said.

"(Guns were) coming from everywhere," she said.

The suspects ran from the scene, deputies said.

No one appeared to be wounded in the incident, deputies said.

The woman doesn't know what the intruders wanted, but she said she'll use her gun again in a similar situation.

"If you're able to protect yourself, totally do it. I know I'm a female, but I had to do what I had to do for my family," she said.
