Woman gets 35 year sentence in stabbing case

Nicole Smertneck said victim made sexual advances

SAN ANTONIO – A woman convicted Friday of stabbing a relative was sentenced Monday to 35 years in prison.

A judge sentenced Nicole Smertneck, 30, after hearing from the 77-year-old victim's family Friday.

Relatives said they lived in fear since the 2012 attack.

Smertneck, a relative of Ponce, had been living temporarily with the victim and his family. She claimed he had made sexual advances toward her.
