DPS identifies woman, 18, killed in crash involving 18-wheeler

SAN ANTONIO – Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety have released the identity of an 18-year-old woman who was killed Wednesday afternoon after her vehicle was struck by an 18-wheeler just outside San Antonio.

DPS identified the woman as Marikate Georgann Maggio, of Floresville.

Maggio was driving southbound on Highway 181 when she tried turning left onto FM 775 and was struck by an oncoming 18-wheeler, DPS said.

Maggio's vehicle was hit at the intersection and was pushed by the semitruck at least 600 feet from where the crash occurred. 

Sgt. Deon Cockrell, with DPS, said Wednesday the investigation is still ongoing and charges, if any, have not yet been determined.

ORIGINAL STORY: 

An 18-year-old woman was killed Wednesday afternoon after her vehicle was struck by an 18-wheeler just outside San Antonio near Calaveras Lake.

Sgt. Deon Cockrell, with the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the woman was traveling southbound on Highway 181 and tried turning left onto FM 775 when the crash happened.

The woman was pronounced dead a short time later.

Cockrell said the investigation is still ongoing and charges, if any, have not yet been determined.
