Woman's body found in South Side apartment

Maintenance worker discovers body at The Midway Apartments

SAN ANTONIO – The death of a 54-year-old woman whose body was found Monday morning in her South Side apartment is suspicious, San Antonio police homicide detectives said.

"It certainly looks suspicious," police spokesman Sgt. Jesse Salame said. "We don't have any real obvious signs of trauma right now, but we are handling it has a homicide."

After receiving calls from concerned relatives, a maintenance man at The Midway Apartments in the 500 block of Mitchell forced opened the door to the woman's apartment and discovered her body.

Salame said the medical examiner will attempt to determine the time and cause of the woman's death.

Homicide detectives questioned apartment residents.

"Some people heard some sounds of glass breaking and sounds of a scuffle inside the apartment either last night or the night before," Salame said. "And there were some things in disarray."

The woman's identity has not been released pending notification of her relatives.
