Edgar Moreno, 27, faces long list of charges

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio Police Department canine officer is responsible for catching a suspect twice on the same night.

Edgar Moreno, 27, escaped from custody and ran from officers twice late Tuesday night.

A police report said officers originally attempted to arrest Moreno around 10:45 p.m. after a hit-and-run crash at Burnet and St. John's streets.

A canine officer bit him twice during the arrest, the report said.

Before Moreno could be taken to jail, police had to have him medically cleared.

Soon after he arrived at a clinic in the 600 block of North Frio Street, Moreno made his second runaway attempt, police said.

Moreno slipped out of one side of his handcuffs and ran off as the officer was closing the doors on his patrol car, the report said.
