Dogs and cats are welcome and no appointments are necessary.

Residents however must ensure their animal companions are leashed or in an appropriate carrier. Free microchips available for the pets of City of San Antonio residents only and photo I.D. is required.

Local veterinary clinics and shelters (including the City’s ACS) scan animals upon intake with a special handheld device. The pet’s microchip has a unique ID number (similar to a driver’s license number) which can be “read” by the scanner, helping to trace the dog or cat back to the owner through their provided contact information.
