Woman with 80 dogs will not face criminal charges

BCSO said woman cooperated, allowed Bexar Co. Animal Control to take 5 dogs

SAN ANTONIO – A woman accused of mistreating about 80 dogs will not face any charges.

Bexar County sheriff deputies responded to a home located on Farm View Loop to investigate the allegations but found no criminal wrongdoing.

"These are animals that do require some medical attention but at this time we don't believe that there was any sort of illegal activity that was occurring," said BCSO spokesman James Keith.

Arlene Shumate lives down the street. She says the biggest problem is the barking.

"You can hear it all the way to my house and my house is pretty far out from here. So yeah it's pretty annoying," Shumate said.

The dogs’ owner cooperated with investigators and allowed Bexar County Animal Control to take five dogs, in hopes that they will be adopted.

The owner refused to go on camera but did tell KSAT she takes in the dogs because many of them don't have a home or are dropped off in front of her home, leaving her no choice but to rescue them.
