Checking in with KSAT 12's guide dog, Gino

The Guide Dogs of Texas to hold online auction

SAN ANTONIO – Training a guide dog is not cheap.

To train one dog, it costs roughly $50,000 for the two-year program. And the clients who use the guide dogs from the Guide Dogs of Texas pay only $1 for their service.

As a result, the organization relies on donations from partners like Doctor Suzie's Pet Hospital.

Doctor Suzie's Pet Hospital, like many other contributing groups, supports the Guide Dogs of Texas by hosting events such as a coin bank that help create awareness about service dogs like KSAT 12's guide dog, Gino.

Gino continues to get bigger, now weighing in at more than 83 pounds.

The Guide Dogs of Texas presently is raising money through an online auction.
