SAN ANTONIO – Proposals are being sought by the San Antonio Tricentennial, through the city's Department of Arts & Culture, from community artists and art agencies for pop-up art projects to occur during 2018.
The commission said the intent of the 300 TriArt Program is to inspire a diverse range of art throughout the city and Bexar County that reflects local culture and history.
"The 300 TriArt Program will produce a diversity of art in our community that is accessible and open to the public," said Faith Radle, of Three Chord Media and member of the Tricentennial Commission. "We encourage both seasoned and emerging artists to embrace the Tricentennial anniversary and create expressive works that showcase the culture, history and unique beauty of San Antonio and Bexar County."
All art types -- including visual, literary, performance and filmmaking -- and media will be considered for the program, said Dr. Katie Luber, co-chair of the Tricentennial Commission.
The commission said each project should be site-specific for a location open to the community.
Arts partners are being encouraged to implement their projects in non-traditional art venues to highlight unique and creative spaces in the city, the commission said. The projects ultimately selected will be reflective of the city and county's rich heritage, taking into account its 300 years of history and encouraging active community participation.
The commission said individual awards granted through the program range from $1,000 to $20,000, with a total of $300,000 available to support local artistic talent. Proposal submissions are due by March 1.
