SAN ANTONIO – The Girl Scouts are working hard to bring courage, confidence and character to young women in our community.
That's why they're spreading awareness about International Day of the Girl, which happens annually on October 11.
"It is a worldwide call to action to bring awareness to girls and the issues they face around the globe," said Stephanie Finleon Cortez, Chief Development and Communications Officer for Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas.
According to a recent Girl Scouts of the USA study, Texas ranks 42 in the nation measuring 13 measures of a girl's well being.
Those measures include education, economic well-being, participation in out of school activities, physical and emotional health.
"Out of 50 states, Texas is 42, so our girls really need us to come together for them," said Finleon Cortez.
Girl Scouts have a lot of activities for girls in San Antonio to get involved in, starting at age 5.
For more information on how to get involved, you can contact Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas at (210) 349-2404 or visit www.GirlScouts-SWTX.org.
