Alamo Heights Peer Tutor program matches a student enrolled in special education with a "typically developing peer." With more than 60 peer tutors enrolled in the program each year, the program is an important part of the curriculum and culture at Alamo Heights High School.
Peer tutors share in the daily activities of their paired peers, including helping them with homework, going to lunch together, participating in school sports and/or clubs, enjoying afterschool activities, like bowling or going to the movies. Peer Tutors attend school dances and events with their peers, like homecoming or prom, football and basketball games.
Their activities are all in an effort to create a culture of inclusion to allow all students to actively engage in school, work and life.
