Colonial Hills Elementary

Colonial Hills has a beautiful community school garden containing 22 garden beds. Students learn many things such as where food really comes from and they learn how to prepare the food through the CHEF (a Culinary Health Education Program that teaches children and families basic nutrition and practical cooking skills).

The garden provides a context for understanding seasonality and life cycles; and is an opportunity to work cooperatively on real tasks.

The students plant, harvest, and deliver the produce from the garden to the cafeteria, and then it is served to the school community. What we teach the students will ripple, and they will carry what they have learned to their families and communities in the future.
