The Let’s Talk initiative focuses on building resilience, college and career readiness and enhancing skills that lead to employment. Each year Lackland ISD hosts two main events ͞Let’s Talk: College and Career Readiness (LTCCR)͟ and ͞Let’s Talk: Getting Hired (LTGH).
Let’s Talk College and Career Readiness provides opportunities for students, families and stakeholders to learn the latest college and career readiness information, ask questions to local educational experts and begin, or continue, discussing postsecondary options in a supportive and enthusiastic environment. Elementary school focuses on early literacy, the power of math, and career exploration. Students in secondary school participate in breakout sessions designed to increase their awareness of college timelines, financial aid, postsecondary academic and trade options, student support programs, Post 9-11 GI Bill benefit eligibility, scholarships and military career options.
Let’s Talk Getting Hired focuses on job readiness, building confidence and preparing students to enter the workforce. LTGH presents information on interview preparation, dressing for success, completing applications, building a resume, and making a great first impression. Students are encouraged to participate in a teen and young adult job fair. Hosted in coordination with local partners in education, the fair provides opportunities for students to apply what they’ve learned as local employers seek summer and seasonal workers.
