SAN ANTONIO - Dogs experience food and environmental allergies just like humans, according to Dr. Michael Mixon, with Texas Veterinary Hospitals.
He said pet allergy symptoms are similar to the what people experience, including itchy eyes or a running nose.
“We see a lot of skin problems, too,” Mixon said.
He said to look for signs that a pet may be suffering from allergies, such as chewing on themselves or shaking their heads.
“Treatment wise, it’s about getting ahead of it and staying on top of it," Mixon said. "It’s about managing it and keeping everything at bay, so they’re comfortable and you can sleep at night.”
Mixon said nutrition, supplements and some antibiotics may provide relief.
