SAN ANTONIO - The 2017-2018 school year is underway for most school districts in the San Antonio area and that kicks off another year of the Go Public-SA Live Cool School Contest.

For August, we are highlighting San Antonio Independent School District's CAST Tech High School.

It's what many are calling "the school of the future."

"We give them so many pathways here so they are not only getting their regular high school course, but they're also learning my business content, they are learning art and media content, and they're also learning a computer science background," said Brian Goethe, Principles of Business Teacher.

Inside, it looks more like a trendy workplace than a high school, and the students are enjoying it.

"The teachers let us come out and they say, "Individual work," and we all run for the sofas because they are so comfortable," said freshman Eliana Robledo.

Freshman Amadeo Ortiz says he has already changed his future plans after attending Cast Tech for just one week.

"I've always kind of had a dream of making my own game," Ortiz says. "But because of coming here I've had the idea of making my own gaming business."

Principal Melissa Alcala said the school is partnering with surrounding downtown businesses to give the students first-hand experiences with professionals.

Partnerships include Geekdom, Rackspace, AT&T, USAA, Whataburger, University Health system and more.

Right now, there is only a freshman class and every year they will add another grade level to the school.

Alcala said there is a lottery system that allows students from all over the city to apply to attend.

Some students come from Helotes & New Braunfels, others have left private schools for this opportunity.

"I was looking at the opportunity of going to this school and the networking and the business partners that this school has," Robledo said. "Coming from an all-girls catholic school and then coming here... there's definitely more boys. (How does that make you feel?) Powerful!"

For September, Southwest Independent School District will be in the running.
