Dragons, giants, and a wall of swords are not something you would expect in San Antonio or any other city for that matter. Thanks to two Army veterans and their love of fantasy board games, the Alamo city now has access to all of those and more.
Paraic and Brenda Mulgrew opened Knights Watch Games, along with their two huskies, one year ago to offer San Antonio a board game experience unlike anything else in this realm.
“It immerses people in an environment that makes games more enjoyable,” said Paraic.
The massive indoor playing area is decorated like the inside of an old castle. Hardwood floors and European furniture grace the shop and transport players to a different time. Two private playing rooms, with integrated mood lighting, music, and sound effects, are rentable and ready to host your next event.
“We were actually stationed in Germany, in the military. I would hit all of the German flea markets and get little trinkets here and there,” said Brenda.
Renaissance themed costumes have a space dedicated in the back with a fitting room and two full-length mirrors. These garments are shipped from Germany and are old exclusively at this shop.
Knights Watch Games offers free play zones and rentable board games as well as a merchandise available for purchase for games like Dungeons and Dragons and Star Wars Imperial Assault.
Custom landscapes and hand-painted figurines can be commissioned for different games by artist Emmanuel Arias. Tables and tools to paint and produce your own board game elements are also available in the back of the store.
Knights Watch Games is located at 16350 Blanco Rd #116, San Antonio, TX 78232. They are open every day, except Monday, from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m.
