Southside ISD students create artwork for SA Tricentennial

Artwork part of SA River Foundation's Arbol de la Vida: Voces de Tierra

SAN ANTONIO – Some Southside Independent School District students spent their summer creating artwork as part of the San Antonio River Foundation's Arbol de la Vida: Voces de Tierra public art installation.

The project coincides with San Antonio's Tricentennial, which is being celebrated next year.

The students' project will become part of Mission Espada, the only colonial mission in the U.S. that remains connected to its original ranching operations.

The students are being guided by renowned artist Margarita Cabrera, who is helping the students connect to San Antonio's ranching history.

"It represents the heritage of a bunch of people here, how San Antonio started, how Texas itself started," Matthew Claryavila, a student, said.

The students will complete their clay artworks at Losoya Intermediate School this week.
