There is often confusion when trying to fly other flags along side the U.S. flag. If you have a state flag in addition to the American flag, keep these tips in mind to follow proper etiquette.

If on different poles, the state flag and the American flag can fly at the same level. The U.S. flag should be flown to the right of the state flag.
However, if the two flags are on the same pole, then the U.S. flag should be on top.
There is an old urban legend that states only Texas can fly its state flag on the same level as the American flag because it was a republic when it joined the union. These claims are false.
