This year's Valero Texas Open will get some major star power as one of the world's top golfers is set to play in next week's event.
Phil Mickelson, winner of 42 PGA Tour titles, and the No. 5 ranked player on the Official World Golf Ranking, was announced as a participant in the Valero Texas Open set for March 27-30 at the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio.

"Phil brings another level of excitement when he enters a tournament and we are grateful he has decided to join us next week," said Valero Texas Open Executive Director Larson Segerdahl in a statement released Wednesday. "The fans in the San Antonio area will have a chance to see one of the great players in the world compete against a tremendous field of PGA TOUR players. Without question, this will be a memorable week."
Mickelson is a five-time major champion—three Masters Tournaments, a PGA Championship and last year's Open Championship at Muirfield, Scotland. The left-hander has also won four PGA TOUR events in the state of Texas. Mickelson hasn't played in the VTO since his debut in 1992 when he was a rookie on the PGA Tour.
