Coach Pop to miss Spurs' next 2 games because of family matter

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich will miss the team's next two games to attend to a family medical situation, a team spokesperson said Monday.

Assistant coach Ettore Messina will fill in for Popovich during his absence.

Messina will lead the team Monday night in Indiana as the Spurs take on the Pacers. Popovich will also miss Tuesday's game in Minnesota against the Timberwolves.

Popovich is scheduled to return to the team Thursday in San Antonio against the Chicago Bulls.
