SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili on Thursday announced that he will be returning to the team for a 15th season.
Ginobili, 38, wanted to take his time before making a decision about playing another year. The former second round pick opted out of his contract on June 22 making himself an unrestricted free agent.
Last season Ginobili in 58 games averaged 9.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in just under 20 minutes per game. He shot 45 percent from the field and 39 percent from 3-point range, his highest total in five years.
July 7 is the first day NBA free agents can sign their new contracts.
The Spurs have yet to make a formal announcement. Terms of Ginobili's contract have yet to be released.
