American swimmer Ryan Murphy won his second gold medal of the Rio Olympics on Thursday, winning the men's 200-meter backstroke.
Mitch Larkin of Australia won silver.
Rookie Olympian Jacob Pebley, a 22-year-old Oregon native, finished in fifth place in his only Rio event. A teammate of Murphy's at Cal, Pebley is the reigning national champion in the 200m backstroke.
Murphy, 21, who swims collegiately for Cal and is swimming in his first Olympics, won gold Monday in the 100-meter backstroke.
He will also be part of the U.S. team defending its 2012 Olympic gold in the 4x100-meter medley relay starting Friday.
