Michael Phelps tied for silver but missed the gold in the 100-meter butterfly final Friday night.
Joseph Schooling of Singapore won the gold. Tying with Phelps for the silver were Chad le Clos of South Africa and Laszlo Cseh of Hungary. American Tom Shields came in seventh.
The performance was Phelps' last in an individual event in Rio. He now has a career total of 27 medals overall.
It also marked Phelps' fourth straight win the event at the Olympics, dating back to the 2004 Athens Games.
Phelps likely has one more event to go in Rio for a chance at a sixth gold medal. He's scheduled to swim in the 4x100-meter medley relay, in which he helped the U.S. to gold in 2012.
Phelps qualified for the 100m butterfly finals in amazing fashion Thursday night, swimming in the semifinals a little more than a half hour after winning gold in the 200-meter individual medley.
Shields qualified sixth in the semifinals, just behind a gassed Phelps, to earn his spot in the final.
