Team USA tries to defend gold in women's 4x100m medley

The U.S. swam for repeat Olympic gold in the 4x100-meter medley relay on Saturday night in Rio.

The team of Kathleen Baker, Lilly King, Dana Vollmer and Simone Manuel, finished with a time of 3:53.13.

Australia won silver and Denmark won bronze.

At the 2012 London Games, the U.S. won the 4x100m medley with a world-record time of 3:52.05, marking the fourth Olympics in a row that saw a world record set in the event.

Australian teams broke the existing world record in winning gold in 2008 and 2004 and the U.S. did the same in 2000.

The team of Olivia Smoliga, Katie Meili, Kelsi Worrell and Abbey Weitzeil qualified the U.S. in Saturday's final by posting the fastest time in Friday's preliminary heats.
