UTSA students excited for football bowl-bound Roadrunners
Football team qualified for first bowl game Saturday
SAN ANTONIO – There is a lot of excitement in the air on the campus of University of Texas at San Antonio. Though students are busy studying for finals, they are giving the football team an A for making history on the gridiron.
The team is headed to their first post-season bowl game, and the student body is excited and proud to be Roadrunners.
"It is surreal, a little bit,” said senior Ryan Thornberg. “You have so much pride and you want to show everybody how great your school is.”
The Roadrunners finished the season 6-6, making them bowl eligible.
"This is actually my first year here at UTSA, and I thought ‘What a great experience your first year to come in,’" said Danielle Hernandez, a UTSA transfer sophomore.
She said she is not surprised given the football team works so hard.
There are even students who are not big football fans, but are fans of the university and are caught up in the excitement.
"We're going to a bowl, I hear that is a big deal. So, I am like, I might as well be excited," said sophomore Senovia Molina.
The bowl appearance also brings some national recognition to the school that reached their goal in just six years.
"It's great to see the program develop at such a young age and reach that point so early on in a program," Thornberg said.
