Sources: Houston Texans trade quarterback Brock Osweiler to Cleveland Browns
Texans also trade second round pick to Browns
CLEVELAND – The Brock Osweiler era in Houston is over as the Texans have traded Osweiler to the Cleveland Browns, according to ESPN and the Associated Press.
ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported Houston traded Osweiler and a 2018 second-round pick to Cleveland for the Browns to take Osweiler’s $16 million salary off Houston’s books.
The move clears out millions in salary cap space for the Texans as they make a push to sign Tony Romo. Denver is another team looking to make room to sign Romo.
The Texans will also get the Browns fourth-round pick this year in exchange for their own sixth-round pick.
Schefter reported Cleveland is not committed to keeping Osweiler and is likely to try to trade him.
The Texans signed Osweiler a year ago to a four-year, $72 million contract with $37 million guaranteed.
He had a disappointing season with Houston, throwing for 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
