SAN ANTONIO – The Churchill Chargers are looking to compete for a district title and make another deep run in the state playoffs.
Head coach Ron Harris and the Chargers return 11 starters from a team that went 11-3 overall and advanced to region finals last season.
One of those starters on offense is running back Diego Vela, who rushed for almost 1,000 yards and scored 10 touchdowns last season. Malik Fletcher is another skilled playmaker for the Chargers.
The defense is led in part by defensive end Seth Jaquess, who has started for Churchill since he was a freshman.
Jaquess is expected to be highly recruited as he goes into his junior season.
The Chargers kick off their 2017 season when play the Clark Cougars in the annual Gucci Bowl on Aug. 31.
