Spurs gaining steam, face Grizzlies for second time on Friday
Tip-off between San Antonio, Memphis is 7 p.m. on FSSW
SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs, winners of the first game of a home and home set with Memphis, will now again attempt to beat the Grizzlies on the road Friday night.
The tip-off between San Antonio and Memphis is 7 p.m. and the game will be shown on Fox Sports Southwest.
The Spurs defeated the Grizzlies 104-95 on Wednesday behind LaMarcus Aldridge's season-high 41 points, which gave Memphis their ninth straight loss.
Tony Parker scored 10 points and dished out five assists in 18 minutes during his second game back for San Antonio since undergoing surgery to repair a torn left quadriceps tendon.
The Spurs became the first NBA team with 10 home wins this season and now has won three straight overall.
Friday's meeting between the teams will be the 25th time brothers Pau Gasol and Marc Gasol face off, which is good for fifth all-time between brothers.
Missing for San Antonio once again was all-star forward Kawhi Leonard, whose return timetable is still unknown.
Memphis (7-13) also continues to be plagued by injuries with Mike Conley (Achilles), Chandler Parsons (right knee), Brandan Wright (groin) and Mario Chalmers (ankle) all missing the first matchup.
Memphis's defeat was the first game since the firing of coach David Fizdale. J.B. Bickerstaff now has taken over the team, which has not won since beating Portland on Nov. 7.
All-Star point guard Mike Conley will miss another two to three weeks as he continues treatment on a sore left heel and Achilles tendon and has been out since Nov. 13.
Following Friday's meeting, the two teams do not play again until Jan. 4, a road game for the Spurs.
