Scholar Athlete: Chidera Ugwokaegbe, Brandeis High School

What are you most excited about for your senior year and why?

The thing I'm looking forward to the most about senior year is starting my own club that celebrates the various cultures of the students at my school. I'm also excited to become a part of more organizations so that I can positively impact my community, create lasting friendships and make lifelong memories.

What drives you to be successful in the classroom and in your particular sport?

When it comes to being successful in the classroom, the thought of making my parents proud is what drives me to do my best. When I'm on the volleyball court or on the track, I remember that not everyone is able to participate in sports and that motivates me even more because I know that I can't take these opportunities for granted.

What advice would you give other student athletes on how to succeed on the field, in the classroom and remain close to family?

My advice to student athletes is to stay true to who you are and not do something just because everyone else is doing it. Focus on your school work, play hard, and find different ways to remain in contact with your family even with your busy schedule.

What do you like best about the high school you attend?

The best thing I like about my school is that we have the freedom to express ourselves, whether it be through music, fashion, or dance. Not every school has that freedom and I'm glad to be a part of such a lively environment.

Where do you want to attend college, major in and why?

I would like to attend Texas Tech University and major in biology because I enjoy learning about life and hope one day to become a doctor.

If you could have one superhero power, what would it be and why?

If I could have one superhero power, it would be to possess the ability to teleport because there are so many places around the world that I want to explore.

If you could take any athlete or celebrity to your senior prom, who would it be and why?

I would take Michael B. Jordan to my senior prom because he's an amazing actor and is so kind-hearted and funny.
