Scholar Athlete: Jenna Barela, Brandeis High School

What are you most excited about for your senior year and why?

I am most excited to enjoy my last year of high school with my friends and prepare for the next big step in my life.

What drives you to be successful in the classroom and in your particular sport?

I always strive to be the best version of myself I can be, and I am naturally a very self-motivated person.

What advice would you give other student athletes on how to succeed on the field, in the classroom and remain close to family?

Balancing the three is often the toughest part of my busy schedule. My advice is to manage your time well and enjoy every little moment.

What do you like best about the high school you attend?

I really like the variety of clubs and organizations that Brandeis offers. It allows everyone an opportunity to be involved and gain a sense of community.

Where do you want to attend college, major in and why?

While I am not set on any college for sure, I am seriously considering the engineering program at UT Austin. The engineering field interests me because it is constantly changing and developing to fit the needs of new worldly problems. Austin has always been appealing to me in that it is close to home and has a great live music scene.

If you could have one superhero power, what would it be and why?

I would want the ability to breath underwater because it would make swimming much easier and the ocean seem less scary.

If you could take any athlete or celebrity to your senior prom, who would it be and why?

I would take Tim Duncan because I admire his athletic career and how humbly he conducted himself on and off the court.
