Week 1: Big Game Coverage Road Trip from Poteet to Floresville

BGC Road Trip stops in Poteet, Pleasanton, Floresville

SAN ANTONIO – The Poteet Aggies will host the Jourdanton Indians to kick off the 2018 Big Game Coverage Road Trip.

Darby House, Poteet's new head coach, is entering his sixth season in coaching and his second as a head coach. House spent last season as head football coach at Class 2A Somerville High School.

"He (House) loves to work with us. We love to work with him," starting quarterback Daryn Garza said. "He's a very good coach. He's young, so it kind of makes him like, we know, we get along."

House, who was hired in late June, is taking over an Aggies squad that went 3-7 in 2017.

At 28 years old, he has already formed a great bond with his team, understanding his guys, who feel they can relate to him much better since he’s closer to their age.

"That could be it. It could be because six years ago I will still playing," House said. "I like the fact that I'm younger, because I can run around a little more. I can keep up. I still throw the ball every now and then (with) them just to mess with them. It's fun, I enjoy it. I'm glad I'm out here."

Senior nose guard Michael Gomez was a little skeptical at first but has quickly grown to like House.

"To be honest, I was a little scared," Gomez said. "This is my senior year, we don't know what we're going to do, but this coach came in and I respect him a lot. He (House) was like 'Hey, this is what we're going to do, we're going to do this hard and we're going to do this fast.' I'm a hard-hitting kind of guy, so it works and I really enjoy it."

Game 1: Jourdanton Indians at Poteet Aggies at Aggie Field.

Game 2: Edison Golden Bears vs. Pleasanton Eagles at Eagle Stadium.

Game 3: Veterans Memorial Patriots at Floresville Tigers at Eschenburg Field (NOTE: This is the Patriots' first varsity season).

All games will kick off Friday at 7:30 p.m. You can catch the highlights Friday on the Nightbeat and at BigGameCoverage.com. For score updates throughout the night, follow us on Twitter @KSATbgc.
