Two straight trips to the state semifinals have only sharpened the Boerne Greyhounds’ appetite for a championship.
Boerne is one of the top 5A-DII teams in the area. The Greyhounds went 6-0 in district last season and 13-2 overall, reaching the state semifinals for the second year in a row, where they lost to Randle High School both times.
The Greyhounds have eight offensive starters and five defensive starters returning from that squad. Winning creates high expectations, and it’s something the Greyhounds embrace.
They practice at 5 a.m. to beat the Texas heat and get a jump on the competition. Early mornings are just one reason the Greyhounds have found success.
“You got to love 5 a.m. practice,” said senior left tackle Jonny Waters. “If you don’t love it, you’re not going to be good. And you’re not going to have a good team.”
Brotherhood is another. It’s more than just a word for the Greyhounds — it’s printed on every football they play with.
Boerne opens the 2026 season Friday, Aug. 28, at Round Rock Westwood.
