Week 7: Big Game Coverage Road Trip from Canyon Lake to Marion

SAN ANTONIO – For the first time this season, the Big Game Coverage Road Trip will feature three district games.

The first stop: the Taylor Ducks at the undefeated Canyon Lake Hawks, battling in the District 14-4A Division I opener for both teams.

Canyon Lake is 5-0 this season and is averaging 29.2 points per game off of the slot-T offense, which is a run-heavy attack.

"It's a lot of up the middle, ground and pound. It's just punishing for a defense to deal with the whole game," senior running back/linebacker Jacob Ruff said. "We'll wear you down in the first half, and the second half is where we really start to shine."

Defensively, the Hawks are allowing opponents 12.2 points per contest.

Head coach Charley Drum, the Hawks' former defensive coordinator, knows that side of the ball is playing well.

"Defense has been outstanding this year. That's the one constant," Drum said. "They talk about defense always travels. To win championships, you need to play great defense and run the football. That's been our formula at Canyon Lake. We're going to be physical on both sides of the ball."

Canyon Lake is home to a beautiful stadium and great community support. For the Hawks’ senior class, this marks their third-to-last home game at home.

"There's not a feeling like it, honestly," senior running back/linebacker Tristan Chacon said. "Last week, we had a bye week and practice. Football is not football without Friday night, and it does it justice."
