UTSA to begin search for new coach immediately

SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas at San Antonio men's head basketball coach, Brooks Thompson, was relieved of his duties Thursday, effective immediately.

"I met with Brooks earlier today and after evaluating all areas of the program, I have decided that it is time to make a change in leadership," UTSA Director of Athletics Lynn Hickey said. "I want to thank Brooks and his staff for all their contributions to the university over the years."

Thompson coached 10 seasons at UTSA, in which he compiled a 133-178 record.

He led the Roadrunners to the 2011 Southland Conference Tournament title and the school's first NCAA Tournament, where they beat Alabama State in the 2011 First Four.

In addition, three Roadrunners were named league freshman of the year and eight earned all-conference honors under his coaching.

UTSA officials said they will begin their search for a new head coach immediately.
