Kawhi Leonard will not play in Olympics

'This was a very difficult decision'

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard on Thursday said he will not play in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

"This was a very difficult decision," Leonard said on Spurs.com. "It's an honor to have been considered for the team and I hope that in the future I will have the chance to represent my country by playing for USA Basketball."

Leonard was the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year and a 2016 All-NBA First Team selection.

ESPN's Jeff Goodman Tweeted about Leonard's decision.
