SAN ANTONIO – While President Donald Trump is nearing his one-year mark serving in the Oval Office, many are already creating campaign ads for Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich to run in the 2020 presidential election.

On Friday, syndicated sports radio “The Rich Eisen Show” shared its first-ever video for the “Funny or Die” platform -- a comedy video website -- creating what host Eisen calls "the first Gregg Popovich for President campaign ad.”

After introducing his accolades, the campaign ad says Popovich is the right candidate because he’s “a veteran, a born leader and a silver fox.”

“Pop cares about the elderly, allowing Tim Duncan to play on his team well into his 80s,” the parody ad says. “He’s also visited the White House after championships on at least five occasions, with three different presidents, making him Washington’s only true bipartisan candidate.”

The campaign ad makes its final statement by taking a jab at President Trump, saying, “And best of all America, Pop does not have a Twitter account … what more could you ask for?”

In anticipation of Popovich’s campaign ad, Eisen says for "fairness and balance," an “attack ad is already out."

The spoof ad immediately goes after Popovich’s only loss in the NBA Finals -- in 2013 -- adding, “Can America afford to lose in the Finals?”

“In reality, Pop takes jobs away from hard-working Americans only to give them to people like Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker,” the attack ad said.

The ultimate plot twist to end the “attack” ad is announcing “Phil Jackson for President,” who Popovich just passed on the all-time most wins list in coaching history.
