Manu Ginobili talks about possible retirement, has fun with media

Ginobili says decision will be well thought out

SAN ANTONIO – With the Spurs one loss away from the offseason, the questions about Manu Ginobili’s future have begun to surface.

Ginobili spoke to the media on Sunday and was asked a number of questions about his possible retirement this offseason.

Ginobili has repeatedly said he will take time in the offseason to make a well-thought out decision and nothing that happens during the Western Conference Finals, or the entirety of the 2017 playoffs will change that.

Ginobili led the Spurs with 21 points in the Game 3 of the series. He became only the second player in NBA history over the age of 39 to score 20 or more points in a conference finals.

He’s also had some "Manu Magic” moments during the playoffs, including his game-saving block of James Harden in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals and an inspired Game 5 performance against Memphis in the first round.

“I always said it, winning the championship or not winning it, scoring 20 the last game or second to last, or whatever, or zero, is not going to change who I am or the decision I make,” Ginobili said.

Ginobili added he’s not thinking too much about the future right now and wants to add another chapter to his storied 15-year career with the Spurs.

“We’ll see if tomorrow (Monday) is the last one of the season, we hope that it’s not and that we have a few more, and once it's over, then I’ll start thinking about what the future brings,” Ginobili said.

In classic Ginobili fashion, he ended Sunday’s media session with a light moment after he was asked if it’s weird that so many players and coaches from around league are discussing him as if he’s already gone from the game. His response got a big laugh from the media.

“I’m feeling that weirdness now,” Ginobili said. “Because I don’t know what’s being said, I don’t follow, but this is getting a little weird, it truly is.”

The Spurs are down 0-3 to Golden State, with Game 4 tipping off at 8 p.m. Monday at the AT&T Center.
