Gay averaged 18.7 points per game last season for Sacramento, but played in only 30 games due to a rupture of his Achilles tendon.

Over his 11-year NBA career, the 6-foot 8-inch forward has averaged 18.4 points and nearly six rebounds per game, but has made the playoffs only once.

Gay opted out of his contract with the Kings that would have paid him $14.2 million next season.

He told ESPN Radio he took less money for an opportunity to play for a championship contender. Gay will turn 31 years old on Aug. 17.

Gay told ESPN.com he has been fully cleared to do everything after suffering the injury, and will be ready when the Spurs begin training camp for the upcoming season.
