New cyber tech facility breaks ground at Port SA

Wednesday marks 100th anniversary of former Kelly AFB

SAN ANTONIO – While celebrating a century of service at the former Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio leaders broke ground on a new project at Port San Antonio.

The new Project Tech will allow for the expansion of the areas cybersecurity community as well as increase collaboration with the aerospace and medical industries.

"As we look forward to the next century, the opportunities here in San Antonio are being expanded because of our ability to deliver buildings and products like cybersecurity," said Roland Mower, CEO of Port San Antonio.

The 90,000-square foot building will be built in phases, with the first phase being completed in 2019.

The city and Port SA leaders also marked the 100th anniversary of Kelly Air Force Base Wednesday.

Kelly Field began operations on March 27, 1917, early in the country’s entry into World War I and was targeted for closure in 1995 during the Department of Defense’s fourth round of Base Realignment and Closure.
