Child escapes injury after car slams into wall of home

Suspected driver, 2 teens arrested after running

SAN ANTONIO – A driver and two teenage passengers all are facing charges for allegedly running from the scene of a crash on the near West Side.

San Antonio police said the car they were in slammed into a home on Gus Garcia, not far from Guadalupe Street, just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The car hit the wall of a bedroom where a child was sleeping, causing damage, police said. However, the child was not hurt.

After the crash, the driver and two passengers ran from the scene, leaving behind the car.

Officers who responded to the call caught up with two teens right away.

A short time later, police received a call from a man, reporting that his car had been stolen.

Police said they spoke with that man at a gas station, somewhere along Interstate 35, and arrested him. They believe he was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.

Officers said that suspected driver was soaking wet when they found him. They said he apparently ran through a creek during his escape.

He was booked into jail on a number of charges. The two teens were charged with evading arrest.
