Motorcyclist killed in crash identified

Derrick Debbins, 46, died Wednesday following collision with vehicle

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the man killed when his motorcycle slammed into a car on the city's East Side.

Derrick Debbins, 46, died Wednesday after being thrown 30 feet following a collision with a vehicle that was turning into a Sonic Drive-In in the 200 block of W. W. White Road.

Three people were inside the car at the time of the accident. An injured passenger had to be cut out of the vehicle before being taken to the hospital. That passenger is expected to recover. The other two people riding in the car were not hurt.

Police say Debbins was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

No charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the car.

A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night when he slammed his bike into a car on the East Side, police said.

The crash was reported about 8 p.m. in the 200 block of South W.W. White Road.

Police said the motorcyclist was speeding in the northbound lanes when he hit the passenger's side of a car as it turned into a Sonic Drive-In.

The man was thrown about 30 feet from his bike. Police said he was not wearing a helmet.

One of three people inside the car had to be cut from the vehicle and taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center. She is expected to be OK. The other two passengers were not hurt.

Police said no charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the car.
