2 in hospital following crash on South Side

Accident occurred on West Southcross and Shelby Drive

SAN ANTONIO – 2 people are in the hospital following a vehicle crash early Thursday, San Antonio police said.

The accident was reported just after 3 a.m. on West Southcross and Shelby Drive on the city's South Side.

Police said a white pickup truck and a red pickup truck were both traveling westbound on Southcross when the red pickup truck attempted to turn. The white pickup truck rear-ended the vehicle as it slowed.

The passenger of the red truck was pinned inside the vehicle and firefighters had to cut the passenger door off in order to free him.

The driver of the white truck and the passenger from the red truck were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said they tested the driver of the white pickup truck to see if he was intoxicated.

The investigation is ongoing.
