Judson HS student killed by train identified

Darvie Alexander, 17, was hit walking on tracks near Gibbs-Sprawl Rd

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Medical Examiner's office has released the name of the student hit and killed by a train while walking along tracks near Gibbs-Sprawl Road.

Darvie Alexander, 17, a junior at Judson High School, died late Wednesday morning.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, Alexander was struck by the train around 11:30 a.m.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office now is working with Union Pacific to look at the surveillance video on board the train to figure out how the accident occurred.

"We’re still trying to determine whether he saw the train, whether he heard it,” said James Keith, spokesman for the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Keith said investigators are looking for the boy’s backpack, headphones, cellphone, or any other possible distractions at the time that may help explain what happened.

The Judson Independent School District announced in a press release that the guidance and counseling department will be on hand Thursday to help any students or teachers who may need assistance.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
