TxDOT warns drivers of possible dangerous conditions on roads

Officials ask drivers to exercise caution during heavy weather

SAN ANTONIO – Low temperatures and wet weather could mean dangerous conditions on bridges and overpasses in the area.

The Texas Department of Transportation spent Thursday night treating the roads, hoping to prevent ice from forming.

"We use what’s called brine, and it's a saltwater solution that helps to prevent any ice from forming. We've been using this for the last two years and it's really worked very well," said Laura Lopez, a TxDOT spokeswoman.

Surrounding areas in the Hill Country were treated on Tuesday.

TxDOT will be monitoring the roads throughout the night Thursday. Officials are also asking drivers to be extra careful.

"You want to keep distance between you and the vehicle in front of you and don't press so hard on your gas pedal or your brake pedal," Lopez said.
