DWI suspect charged in connection with fatal crash

Alejandro Almazan charged with intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault

SAN ANTONIO – A drunken-driving suspect has been charged in connection with a crash that killed one woman and critically injured two other people.

Police said Alejandro Almazan was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban in the westbound lane in the 6800 block of Culebra Road around 2:30 a.m. Sunday when his vehicle crossed over the lane divider line and struck a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport head-on.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, Lizette Flores Corona, 29, died at the scene, police said.

Michelle Ruiz and Pablo Ledesma-Rodriguez, both 27 years old and passengers in the Mitsubishi, were taken to University Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Almazan is charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.

He is also on a hold by immigration officials.
