Heads up! Changes have been made on Highway 281 on the far north side

Drivers will be diverted to new frontage roads as part of expansion project

SAN ANTONIO – If you are driving on U.S. 281 this weekend north of Loop 1604, expect to see some changes.

This week, as part of the expansion project, traffic switches or diversions were made that will send drivers to newly built frontage roads.

This switch will be on southbound lanes only between Encino Rio and Sonterra Boulevard, and it will stay in place for months until the new main lanes are ready.

The Texas Department of Transportation says that there will not be any loss of lanes and that drivers should just be aware of the new speed limit.

The new shift section will be reduced from 60 mph down to 45 mph.

Expect the same to happen in about two weeks to the northbound lanes.
